Fulbright Scholar & Visiting Researcher

Michelle Flood, PhD

Michelle Flood is a Fulbright Scholar/Visiting Researcher at the Design Institute for Health, a partnership between the Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.

Michelle is a lecturer (assistant professor) at the School of Pharmacy in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in Dublin, Ireland. Her research at the Design Institute focuses on two primary areas; understanding the impact of equipping medical students with design methods on the provision of patient care, and exploring how design can be conceptualized and integrated in health professions curricula. Her wider research interests relate to how using approaches based on activity theory and social design methodologies can bring researchers, students, and the public closer together with theoretically grounded and practical interventions to benefit research, education, and public health.

Michelle is a registered pharmacist in Ireland, and worked as a pharmacist for several years before moving to academia. She holds a PhD from the Department of Educational Research at Lancaster University, UK and an MSc in Healthcare Management and BSc in Pharmacy from RCSI. Outside of work her interests include exploring new places (especially around Austin!), hiking, visiting museums and galleries, and watching Murder She Wrote.
